Q + A with Larissa Jaks: The native Texan and photographer behind some of your favorite WLDKAT products

Meet Larissa Jaks aka @snapsbyjaks, nature lover and friend of WLDKAT. We virtually sat down with Larissa to get more insight into what inspires her creative process, how she got into photography, and what she’s been doing to fill her time during her quarantine.

Where are you from?

Austin, Texas!

Ideal breakfast?

Tough one, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. It’s a tie between Huevos Rancheros and Florentine Benedict.

What WLDKAT product can you not live without in your routine?
The Gel Cleanser is the smoothest thing I’ve ever put on my face! I even recently used it as a body wash while camping. The fact that it’s PH balanced is everything.

What non WLDKAT product can you not live without?
Weleda Skin Food Ultra-Rich Cream! I always look for all natural ingredients. It’s meant for rough skin but I actually use it around my eyes. It gives a super youthful and dewy look.

When did you first pick up a camera?
Funny Story! My mom has been a notoriously bad photo taker ever since I can remember, so as young as six or seven I remember being the one responsible for taking our family vacation photos. Practice makes perfect! :)

What music/TV/film has been in heavy rotation during your time at home?
With all that’s going on in the world right now I’ve been binging feel good music and podcasts. I have actually been DJ’ing country music for a couple of years now, so in early march I made a public Spotify playlist called “Western Wednesday #2 Quarantine Addition”. That as well as my favorite podcast “Armchair Expert” have been on non-stop.

We love your photography and we’ve even featured it on the MUSHROOM +  MOSS gel cream! What inspires you when creating your work?
Nature 100%. There is so much variation in nature. Barren Deserts and complicated mountainous terrain are equally as interesting to me depending on the day. It’s a good reminder that not one thing is ever better than another, just a matter or perspective.

What emoji best represents you?
🤠

Best idea ever?
Roadtrip!

Favorite travel spot/trip?
The Sawtooth Mountains in Idaho are a serious secret. I did a backpacking trip there a year or so ago and am very eager to get back. Idaho in general is one of those states you don’t hear much about but has so so much to offer.

What makes you feel cute? (Cause you cute as hell.)
First of all, thank you… I’m blushing! When my bangs fall the way they are meant to I feel super cute. Anyone with bangs knows the struggle.

What IG photography account have you been swooning over lately?
@mignonettetakespictures

We know you’re an old school country fanatic! If you had to pick: Country or Rock n roll?
Guilty as charged! Rock n Roll has roots in and was heavily influenced by old country and blues, so I gotta say Country.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into photography as a hobby or a profession?
Don’t have an ego, and don’t compare! Just like I said before, not one photo is better than another. Perspective and personal taste are beautiful attributes of Art.
