Meet Friend of WLDKAT, Marquis Neal, our actual internet crush. We caught up with the Brooklyn based model and personal style enthusiast (Peep his IG Reels to get a look at this man’s closet) to see how he starts his day, why his wardrobe has been such an important part of life at home, and how 90’s and early 2000 pop culture has shaped how he looks at the world.
Where ya living these days? I live in Brooklynnn, NYC
Preferred Pronouns: He/Him She/Her They/Them
Give us a snapshot on “Who you are” in one sentence. You ever just feel like you’re the main character of your own movie? I do.
How do you start your day? I’m an early bird so it starts at 5am most of the time. I wake, bake, cook, coffee, then proceed to showering and whatever the world, or work has to offer me.
Favorite IG account you’ve recently followed? @oneciciera I found her while browsing the web and idk, the algorithms aligned, and I fell in love with her content. she’s currently my go to style inspo on how to think of fashion.
It’s the top of the New Year! What artists and podcasts are you listening to that’s helping you set your 2021 intentions? Happy New Year Friends! Really most of the time I’m still listening to brandy, 702, Xscape, Ashlee Simpson, Fefe Dobson, Avril Lavigne, Britney spears, and Outkast as ways of self-care (idk nostalgia) as it brings me joy, sprinkled with Rina Sasayama, Flo Milli, Alex Mali, and Bree Runway. Just good serotonin all around. As for podcasts, I may be old fashioned, but I don’t listen to many. I get into documentaries about weird moments in pop culture, amusement parks with interesting history, video game glitch hunters, and lost media. Idk I think seeing other people follow their passion (in turn) drives me to follow mine. Also (did you know Kelly Cutrone did her first season of the Hills for free while the other girls were getting paid? She brought such backdrop)
What have you been working on lately that you’re super proud of? I rearranged my space in a way that makes me feel the most comfortable (it truly is such a task in nyc) and honestly working on taking care of myself this past year has been something I’ve been proud of.
Your go-to WLDKAT product and why it’s claimed a spot on your skincare shelf? I could honestly go on about this for a while but it’s truly the coconut water + noni fruit electrolyte spray. It works anytime of the day. It feels wonderful. It works to sheer out makeup, it works to prime for makeup, it calms my redness, IT SMELLS GREAT, it’s refreshing, it doesn’t irritate my skin, and it’s like a moment of salvation every morning. Plus, I’m a super big fan of giving my skincare lots of slip with a mist, so this one works PERFECTLY.
What’s one vice you wish you could give up? IM A SUCKER FOR SOME ICE CREAM. But also, I really don’t wish to give it up hahaha.
I am happiest when I’m… in no particular order: singing something (bonus happiness when I can remember all the words), looking back at myself in the mirror, cooking, when the outfit hits right, with my partner, creating visual media that’s representative of me.
I’m stressed when… the delivery time says “30-45” minutes and it’s been almost an hour, I don’t have skincare on within 10 minutes post shower, people don’t know how to read the room, my favorite part of the song comes on and someone changes it. walking to the train.
What tv or movie character do you most identify with? TBH, most days I wake up feeling like either Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay Evans or Gabrielle Union as Isis. Idk that sassy likable energy is cute to me. Lol
What is the WILDEST thing on planet earth? TBH, how much I love WLDKAT products.
Favorite food? Mac N Cheese. Everyone’s always tastes different and I think that’s also exciting about it.
What are 3 selfcare essentials you cannot live without? Clothing. It sounds strange to some, but that moment when you get ready for the day and you’re “creating that vision of yourself to take on the world” that journey is my self-care. Its therapeutic for me. Reminding myself that my existence is valid, is essential. And music, even when it’s good and bad. Sometimes you just gotta sing a song, cry, dance, hear the words, relate, or not relate, just feel the energy and being vulnerable to music and allowing it to take you places.
What’s one thing that people don’t know about you? When I was in 7th grade, I performed Britney spears “Me Against The Music” at my schools talent show and did every move that was in the video. Bwahahhaha
